Abstract
The present study aimed to investigate the attitudes and preferences of postgraduate Translation Studies students at the Faculty of Literature and Foreign Languages, Allameh Tabataba’i University, regarding the design and use of PowerPoint presentations in the classroom, as well as their views on the necessity of instruction in PowerPoint design principles. This study employed a descriptive-survey approach using an electronic questionnaire. Data were collected from 20 Master’s and Ph.D. students in Translation Studies and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Cronbach’s alpha, and the chi-square test. The findings indicated that students’ preferences were dependent on the function of PowerPoint. The findings showed that only a small proportion of the students had received formal training in PowerPoint design, while a considerable proportion developed their slide-design practices based on personal preferences and trial and error.. The study emphasizes the need to consider PowerPoint design instruction as an independent skill alongside other academic presentation skills.
