Abstract
This meta-synthesis examines how artificial intelligence (AI) and machine translation are transforming financial translation across educational, organisational, and professional contexts. Following Sandelowski and Barroso’s (2007) meta-synthesis framework and PRISMA 2020 reporting principles, the study synthesises 30 peer-reviewed studies published between 2020 and 2026. Thematic analysis identified three interconnected domains: educational challenges, management strategies, and professional implications. The findings indicate that AI integration is reshaping translator competence by adding AI literacy, prompt engineering, and human–AI collaboration to established linguistic-cultural, domain-specific, strategic, and professional competencies. In educational settings, AI-supported training, interactive materials, and machine-translation literacy are increasingly incorporated alongside conventional translation practices and human evaluation. At the organisational level, AI enables greater automation and workflow flexibility but also introduces requirements for quality assurance, data security, human oversight, and adaptive governance, particularly for complex financial and regulated documents. Professionally, translation work is increasingly characterised by hybrid workflows involving post-editing, quality assessment, strategic mediation, and continuous technological development. Persistent difficulties with specialised terminology, legal phrasing, cultural appropriateness, metaphors, and factual reliability indicate that AI capabilities remain dependent on task and context. Overall, the synthesis conceptualises AI integration as a socio-technical reconfiguration of financial translation rather than straightforward technological substitution.
